You need one, just one speaker to have outdoor sound however we have to warn you, it will be a very poor experience. Outdoor sound is much different than indoor sound because there are no walls and it is a much larger space. This does not mean you can not achieve great sound, it just means we have to design the space a little differently. Indoors, especially for a home theater is all about the "sweet-spot", having the sound calibrated for proper left - right - rear and over head Dolby Atmos immersive listening, you can learn more about that on our home audio and home theater pages. But when it comes to outdoor sound or any large space it is all about a "uniform sound field" which sounds complicated but it just means having the same sound level anywhere within a certain space. We have all been to a party or restaurant where the music is too loud in one area (close to the speaker) and barely audible in another area (to far from a speaker). Adjusting the volume is not the answer because it may help one guest hear it better but just making it louder for another sitting near the speaker and vice-versa. This is due to poor a poor design that ultimately leads to a poor experience overall.
